FICTION FAQS
Q: Do you proofread fiction?
A: Yes. Some. See below.
Q: Do you proofread all fiction genres?
A: No. I won’t read horror, occult, or erotica, full stop.
Exclusive of the above, I will read whatever fiction you have. However, if you have a Fantasy or Sci-Fi that has an extensive fictional language, I reserve the right to either reject it or charge a slightly higher rate per word.
Q: What is included in your fee for self-published and indie authors?
A: This is a simple proofread, not an edit. Your book should have already been through at least one edit before it comes to me.
I will be looking for spelling mistakes, misused words, punctuation, and basic grammar errors. I will also note any formatting errors. Having said that, there are times I can’t turn off my internal editor. At those times I might point out a few issues along the way. However, don’t depend on it.
Q: Why are your rates for fiction so low?
A. First, this isn’t my main source of income. I’m a writer. Sometimes I need to switch off the output channel, and proofreading gives me a chance to stay in the game, just in another position.
Q: What are my payment options?
A: Since my rates are ridiculously low, I ask for payment upfront via PayPal. I will send you an invoice and when I’m ready to start the job, not before.
If you have a high word count book and funds are tight, I will consider working out a payment schedule of some sort, but that will be based on individual circumstances. Talk to me about it before we get started.
ONLINE CONTENT FAQs
Q: Do you proofread professional documents?
A: Yes. I will proofread your online content, however, I don’t proof non-fiction books. If your content is highly technical in nature, I may charge a higher fee. Also, please note, this is a simple proofread, not an edit.
Note: I require a sample before quoting a project, and I have the right to reject a project based on the sample. If, after seeing the entire document, I discover the sample isn’t indicative of the complete work, I still have the right to reject the job and return your payment.
Q: What is included in a light edit?
A: It’s a small step up from a proofread. On top of what you would typically expect from a proofread, I will check for consistency in spelling (US, UK, Canadian…), hyphenation, and capitalization. I will not be checking your facts or looking for internal inconsistencies.
